Seeks a high-level departmental enquiry and severe action against engineers involved in corruption

Hyderabad: A PWD civil contractor Perumalla Kondala Rao on Sunday urged the State government to order a departmental enquiry into the rampant corruption in the engineering department of Telangana State Medical Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMIDC).

Speaking to mediapersons, Rao urged the TRS government to order a high-level departmental enquiry and initiate severe action against AE Surender Reddy and DE Ravindar Reddy of the Engineering department of TSMSIDC for their alleged corrupt activities in the construction and repair works carried out in Osmania General Hospital and Osmania Medical College buildings.

He alleged that the duo had swallowed over Rs 40 crore during the last 10 years by fleecing contractors who executed the works. Pointing out that an Engineering department had been created in the TSMIDC to execute works like flooring and wall repairs in the hospital buildings and modernisation of drainage system by observing quality norms for the benefit of the patient traffic, Kondal Rao said the State government had introduced e-procurement policy in the allotment of works to civil contractors without giving scope to corrupt practices.

“But these two corrupt officials resorted to a huge scam by preparing dummy estimation of works and making double payments to their near and dear. AE Surender Reddy and DE Ravindar Reddy even misused Demand Drafts of the government several times claiming that they are relatives of the Minister concerned,” he alleged.

Rao also alleged that the duo in connivance with the Osmania Medical College principal swindled crores of rupees by fabricating accounts and bills. He said the duo was harassing contractors by demanding 20% commission for clearing their bills and dodging contractors for months.
