PNB Metlife Rotathon, 5K walk for literate India will be held in Hyderabad at Necklace Road on Sunday February 28th early morning. Nearly 5,000 people are expected to participate in the 5K walk for literate India that will be begin from Necklace Road on Sunday.

Organised by PNB Metlife, the walk will be held along with 50 plus towns Telangana and Andhra Pradesh at same time for the cause of creating awareness literacy of girl children.

As part of the announcement, a press conference was called on Thursday to share the details about the Rotathon. Addressing media persons, Shilpa Reddy, Brand Ambassador said, “Rotathon is a wonderful cause. No development is possible, unless its total population becomes literate.”

Geeta Mallikarjun, Chairman Rotary Clubs of Hyderabad Region was also present at the event who informed, “There will be a live band, music and a lot of fun. Anybody can participate by paying Rs 200 participation fee. They can register on www.rotathon.org, www.bookmyshow.com, www.meraevents.com.”

The funds generated from the event will be utilised for “Integrated School Development Project” including Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, which educates less privileged girl children. “This walk on Sunday morning can transform the lives of over 2,000 girl children every year,” added Surendranath M, District Secretary.

“This is a walk for the liberation of every child from poverty, exploitation and neglect. Even after 68 years of Independence, our nation is 26 per cent illiterate. The key instrument for India to become a developed country is literacy and it is the responsibility of every citizen to support this cause,” he added.
