One of the main reasons for which I decided to receive medical treatment in India was the good reputation in terms of specialists, medical products and surgical procedures,” said the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Anerood Jugnauth. The international dignitary was quoted in a statement giving a boost to the medical tourism scenario of the State, after his successful cataract and glaucoma surgery performed by chief surgeon and co-chairman of Maxivision Eye Hospitals, Dr Kasu Prasad Reddy.

“Hyderabad made impressive strides in recent years and is surging ahead with new facilities and technology. The staff and doctors were very good and supportive,” added the Mauritius PM. Speaking to the media persons on Thursday, Dr Reddy informed, “The 84-year-old has recovered completely and will be flying back early next week.”

“Cataract operation becomes difficult with glaucoma and the chances of complications will be more but, the operation was smooth,” he added. While the right eye was operated on February 21, the surgery on the other eye was performed on February 23. Each surgery lasted for half an hour and did not require any hospitalisation. The Mauritius PM, who is staying at a star hotel, will undergo a checkup on February 28 before returning to his home.

The PM was scheduled to address the media but backed out at the last minute on the ground that it was a private visit. However, thanking Dr Reddy, he said, “I would recommend the patients in my country to seek medical treatment in India.”
