Hyderabad: The 277th birth anniversary of Sant Sri Sevalal Maharaj was celebrated with religious fervor and zeal by Banjaras in the city on Friday. Men and women attired in colourful traditional outfits with glittery accessories have participated in the five-hour long celebrations.

They sang Banjara songs and performed folk dances at Ravindra Bharathi. Tribal Welfare Minister A Chandulal, who was the chief guest at the event, said it was a happy moment for all the Banjaras as the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had lived up to his promise of celebrating the festival on a grand scale across the State.

He thanked the chief minister for developing tribal localities of Banjaras in the state. The event was organised by Telangana Girijana Sankshema Sangam office-bearer G Shankar Naik, who said that Telangana is the first state to have officially celebrated the festival.

Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan, Tribal Welfare Commissioner R Laxman, ITO Officer Prakash Rathode and the leading members of the community were present during the event.
