Three arrested for engaging minors in petty jobs

Found guilty for engaging children and holding them bondage, K Giri Raju, Syed Sarfaraj and Tudugani Venu were arrested under sections 370, 374 and 79 of the Juvenile Justice Act at the Secunderabad Railway station on Friday.

The two boys, Suresh Rao (17), a resident of Raipur in Chhattisgarh and Pradhan Vasudev (15) from Srikakulam were made to sell tea, coffee and samosas for over two months. Though they were promised daily wages of Rs 200 the children were not paid.

A Anjaneyulu, Inspector of Police, Secunderabad along with GRP crime party men with the assistance of Child Line NGOs rescued the boys under the supervision of DSRP Secunderabad Urban. Later, the victims were produced before the DPO Hyderabad and handed over to the District Child Welfare House, Nimboliadda juvenile home.

The boys had run away from their houses and it has been eight months now. According to rough estimates, about two to five children between 15-17 years land at the Secunderabad Railway station daily. The trio working at Balan stall woo children who land at the station after running away from their homes by promising them employment and make them do menial jobs.

The police officials have written to the Railway Divisional Manager to cancel the license to Balan stall. It is said that the kingpin is one Srinivas who has a number of stalls at railway stations and engages men to trap gullible children and get work out of them.

In spite of several NGOs and Child Helpline present at the Secunderabad Railway station, the number of runaway children is still growing. Railway police officials say that people who find children moving suspiciously could contact the toll free number 1512.

The Railway Protection Force is planning to conduct a statewide drive in all the railway stations and nab unscrupulous elements who trap runaway children.Since 2013, 1,089 children were rescued under the RP district, Secunderabad and 241 were handed over to their parents. In all, 793 boys and 296 girls were rescued since 2013 till February 25, 2015.
