Hyderabad: Congress leader P Sabita Indra Reddy demanded Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao not to shy away from allocating the available 30,000 housing units that were constructed under Rajiv Gruha Kalpa during the Congress government.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, she said that the CM drew inspiration for double-bedroom dwellings from the Congress government, which had constructed 80,000 single-bedroom housing units for poor. Of these, about 50,000 were handed over to the beneficiaries while the remaining 30,000 are yet to be granted to eligible families.

She pointed out that Congress party had strived hard to provide houses to the poor in 412 acres, spread across 32 different locations in the state. The state and central government had spent Rs 1742 crore on building them.

“While the government is promising double bedroom houses to poor, the housing units constructed about two years ago remained unoccupied,” she said. While referring to 73,000 applications received by the Rangareddy district collector for double-bedrooms, Sabita Indra Reddy said people were desperate to own a house.
