About 56 Slum Level Federations (SLFs) highlighted the role to be played by Self Help Groups (SHGs) for the successful implementation of the GHMC’s ‘100 Days Action Plan’. In a presentation during a meeting, which was organised by the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MPEMA) in the Secunderabad Cantonment on Wednesday, the officials from SLFs explained the modalities that need to be undertaken by SHGs towards the government’s initiative of improving the economic condition of the poor.

V Prakash, Project Officer, MEPMA, Secunderabad Cantonment Area said, “As per the 100 Days Action Plan of the GHMC the bank linkage of Rs 100 crore to 4,352 Self Help Groups (SHGs) will be covered in twin cities. Our target in SCB area is 114 SHGs of which 105 are women self help groups and the remaining are People With Disability (PWD).” He appealed to the group leaders of the SHGs to increase the number of women who are eligible, but not covered under the scheme till now, to achieve the desired target within 100 days.

Vijaya Laxmi, project director, Rangareddy District said, “Our mission is to bring all urban poor families by accessing services from organisations through their own strong self-reliant and self-managed institutions targeting the urban poor particularly the poorest of the poor to eliminate poverty and vulnerability in a sustainable manner and improve their economic condition.” The programme was attended by Brahmaigh, Asstant Project Director, Anil Institution Building, District Mission Coordinator and other officials.
