Taken on that count, it appeared to be a good exercise when teachers and existing students of the Social Welfare Residential Magnet School for Girls at Mahendra Hills went around the slums.

Their mission was plain and simple-educating the elders about the importance of educating daughters. They sought admissions into fifth standard and right up to Intermediate and highlighted the importance of education that was being provided free of cost.

Personally monitored by Dr R S Praveen Kumar, Secretary of the institutions, the faculty members visited Mahatma Gandhi nagar basthi. To add an element of entertainment, they were accompanied by award-wining Dalit folk singer P Ranganna. The campaign that began at Narsingi will culminate on March 10, after covering many slums in and around the twin cities.
