Youngsters set green example

It was a sight to behold, and one that could come as a delight to all those championing the cause of Swachh Bharat. Smartly dressed boys and girls belonging to families from various walks of life had no qualms going around lanes and thoroughfares holding black garbage pickup bags during Rotathon, a 5 km run organised by Rotary Clubs of Hyderabad Region at People’s Plaza.

The young brigadiers who stood out with their purposeful seriousness are green volunteers from The Green Nest, an NGO that is operated exclusively by eco-conscious students, including those pursuing medical, engineering and IT streams.

Incidentally, they are always at a hands distance whenever Rotary holds an event. The youngsters take upon themselves to leave the venue clean once the event gets over.It is a common feature with every celebration to come across litter once the hosts and guests are done with the celebrations.

It is here that the soldiers of cleanliness take over and get down to work. Although, they render such menial jobs of their own accord, the near-perfect job should come as practical lessons to the field employees from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
