The environs of Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Music and Dance College came up alive on Sunday with activity as a bunch of enthusiastic elderly persons trooped in to be part of the International Women’s Day celebrations of the Vayovruddha Charitable Trust, an organisation floated by a group of volunteers to assist the old and destitute septuagenarians.

Addressing a meeting organized on the occasion, AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation president Mutthavarapu Murali Krishna said that the prime and basic duty of each individual was to respect elders, who provided everything, anything and sacrificed themselves for the growth of their children. He lauded the initiative of the trust for bringing out the commendable sportiveness among the elderly persons.

The trust chairman Challa Harikumar listed out the various programs taken up by the trust in the last few years and said the active support of individuals had spurred the Trust to work with a renewed vigor and reach out to a larger crowd of the needy.

Games like musical chair, brisk walk and a fancy dress, conducted as part of the Women’s Day celebration, drew enthusiastic participation. Toothless grins escaped through wrinkled faces as they tried to stand erect on their shaky legs when greeted by members of the trust.

Felicitations were also conducted by the trust to centurion women and it also honoured women entrepreneurs include K Kankadurga, J Pragathi, K Vanaja, B Padma Rani, B Sujatha and KV Naga Kumari of Surampalli and Adavinekkala areas. Krishna District ZP chairperson Gadde Anuradha, Vayovruddha Charitable Trust trustee Bonda Sujatha, program coordinator T Arjuna Rao, Eagle Nest Corporation, Cansas USA,

V Lakshmi Naidu, All India Radio, Vijayawada M Krishna Kumari, Income Tax Commissioner Ajay Kumar, corporator K Anasuya and others were also present on the occasion.
