He is not your familiar figure on a regular cricket pitch. He has not played for Hyderabad in Ranji trophy championship. But give him the red cherry and he comes across as a different breed altogether, one who means business on the 22-yard stretch.

Suffice to say that he is ruling the roost in cricketing circles that revolve around the corporate world, which gets busy on weekends playing matches in and around the twin cities. Mind you, despite such leagues being more of physical fitness activities, there is serious competitiveness, which is evidenced by the prize-money that is up for grabs.

Meet Aslam Nahdi, who represents Masqati Dairy Products Cricket Club. The outfit has been riding the crest of glory in corporate leagues, thanks to consistent performances from players like Nahdi, who is a proven match-winner for the team. So much has been the dominance of Masqati DPCC that it has notched up record titles and runner-up finishes in the past 12-15 months.

“I am happy for the team that it has been scripting a dream run for quite a while now. I hope to be as much an integral part of the outfit as are my teammates. We jell as a team and that is what matters at the end of the day,” points out Nahdi, who is a big fan of the slam-bang variety of cricket.

His track-record speaks for itself. In 121 matches, spread over 26 tournaments, he has scalped a whopping 430 batsmen, including three hat-tricks! These were aptly rewarded with 31 ‘man of the match’ awards and five ‘bowler of the tournament’ honours. Not bad for a slow medium bowler, who, as a fighting fit 40+ enthusiastic cricketer, can give the more youthful and agile players a run for their money.

“I was thrilled when the face of body-building and eminent coach, Mir Mohtesham Ali Khan greeted me for my performances during a felicitation event that was also graced by table tennis prodigy Naina Jaiswal. Such words of encouragements are timely morale-boosters considering that the team is gearing up for the ensuing season,” says Nahdi as he looks forward to replicating the successes, all over again.
