Hyderabad-based Livlife Hospitals has brought advanced surgical methods called ETep (Enhanced view totally extra peritoneal) technique for repairing the ventral hernia with mesh using minimally invasive technique and TAR (Transversus Abdominis Release) method for large and recurrent hernias.

These breakthrough procedures have been adopted for the first time in south India and they can handle most complex hernia repairs that are termed to be most challenging. The techniques have been perfected by Cleveland Clinic, USA. In ETep repair, a mesh is placed between the stomach muscles rather than inside the stomach. This ensures extra safety owing to the absence of mesh’s exposure to the intestine and also avoids accidental injury to the structure of the abdomen.

In the second technique TAR, a patient’s own tissue is used to repair the hernia and a large mesh is used to cover entire abdomen. This method is proven to be significant in treating the large protracted hernia, difficult, recurrent hernia and in patients with poor midline abdominal wall.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nandakishore Dukkapati, eminent hernia and bariatric surgeon said that the procedure ensures minimal scars and minimal blood loss, faster recovery and lowest recurrence rate. “We have seen almost 100 per cent results even among complex cases and we are happy to be the first in Telangana to introduce this procedure,” the doctor said adding that the process also brings down the medical cost significantly.
