Women express solidarity with Irom Sharmila

Irom Sharmila, who has been on fast for almost a decade-and-half, received support in the city with Hum-Hyderabadi and Swaraj Abhiyan-Telangana, several NGOs and students from Students Islamic Organisation of India came together for a daylong Satyagraha at Dharna Chowk on Tuesday. Sharmila has been demanding the repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

Sharmila has been demanding the repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
Dr Lubna Sarwath of Hamara Hyderabad and Chaya Ratan, convener of Swaraj Abhiyan, Telangana, said that this was timed to coincide with the International Women’s Day. She said similar protest satyagrahas were held across the country. They said it was time steps were taken to ensure that good governance and safety of women would be the order of the day.
