A majority of the sleep disorder cases in city hospitals are youngsters in the age group of 22-35. The major culprit is changing lifestyle, say doctors and social scientists.

Out of every 10 patients, about six are youngsters under the age of 35 mostly working in IT &ITes sector. Excessive travel, changing shifts often and working across time zones is costing young people, say health experts.

Nitin, a software employee who works in Bengaluru says, “I am seriously planning to look out for a day job as night shifts have taken a toll on my health.”

Dr Vijay Kumar, consulting pulmonologist says, “Lifestyle has changed drastically in the last two decades. About 90 per cent of the population does not sleep by 9 pm, which should be the case.”
