On March 31-April 1, President Obama will host the fourth and final Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, D.C. Although previous summits made notable progress on President Obama’s goal of securing vulnerable nuclear materials and minimizing the risk of nuclear terrorism, the 2016 meeting presents a key opportunity for the Obama administration to lock in important commitments that will strengthen the global nuclear security architecture for the future, thus observes http://asiasociety.org. The Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) is a world summit, aimed at preventing nuclear terrorism around the globe. The first summit was held in Washington, D.C. on April 12–13, 2010.

The second summit was held in Seoul, South Korea in 2012. The third summit was held inThe Hague, the Netherlands on March 24–25, 2014.While China has signed up for tough new UN sanctions against North Korea, it has said repeatedly sanctions are not the answer. Numerous efforts to restart the talks have failed since they collapsed following the last round in 2008.

As nuclear terrorism emerged as one of the greatest threats to international security, Obama hosted the first Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) in Washington DC in 2010.

In 2012 the second NSS was held in Seoul. Fifty-three countries and four international organisations were invited. The first summit was concerned with making political agreements, while the follow-up in Seoul focussed on the progress made on implementing those agreements. The third NSS, in The Hague in 2014, was centred on the results achieved and the future.
