Warren Senders from the USA presented a melodious Hindustani vocal recital at Our Sacred Space, Secunderabad recently. He started the performance with a composition in Raga Jaijaiwanti, which was well accompanied by Anand Patwari on tabla and Rahul Deshpande on the harmonium. The rendition was then followed a ‘Tarana’ in Raga Nand.

Warren further sang a ‘Tappa’ in Raga Kafi ‘Bera bera manuwa’. Inspired by the wonderful space that also has a lot of classical dance activity Warren took up a piece ‘Aangana mora naache saavariya’ which is in Raga Shudh Kalyan normally sung in the mornings.

Warren also spoke about the need to be careful about the consequences of ‘Climate Change’ on the present day music and reminded the audience to be vigilant about this aspect so that the musical traditions that originated hundreds of years ago could survive. He went on to sing a Pahadi song taught to him by Pakistani performer Mussadiq Sanwal and concluded with a composition ‘Morre naina bhara bhara aaye’ in Raga Bhairavi. The whole programme showed the dedication of Warren Senders to the Indian tradition of carrying on the legacy of his ‘Guru’ by this soul-stirring performance
