In its latest avatar, the Suraksha Sanchetna Abhiyan (SSA) from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), has added a new concept ‘Surakshit Bharat, Khushaal Bharat’ with a theme focusing on ‘Women’s Health and Gas Conservation’ along with building influencers who will spread the message of safe use of LPG and hazardous effects of using traditional cooking fuels.
As a part of the activation SSA will reach out to districts across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Speaking about the initiative, Subhankar Biswas GM, LPG Sales and Marketing, HPCL said, “We decided to communicate the health hazards of using fuels like coal, cow dung, wood etc. In addition to conveying the benefits of using an LPG cylinder in the kitchen, we are also conveying and educating people on ways of the correct and proper use of LPG cylinders such that they don’t put anyone’s life in jeopardy.”
With the objective of driving the message closer home, the team visited each household to engage and enlighten the members. Instead of delivering the message in a serious and sombre manner, the team chose to conduct their Safety Walk to the rhythm of the Lezim and the infectious and rousing beat of Dhols. Handing out safety cards and drawing pre-designed rangolis (shaped like HPCL logo) outside homes, indicating the goodness it is bringing to that home, was another endearing effort from the team. The messages were conveyed to the audience through the enactment of three one-act street plays and prizes were distributed to those who answered questions correctly.
Additionally, the team also created Local Brand Influencers by conducted School Contact Programs educating children at an early age about LPG safe usage and benefits, Retail Connect where the team identified 4-5 big retailers (kiranamerchants) and educated their families about safe use and conservation of LPG, Gas stove Repairmen Engagement where the team deployed safety chart and educated these repairmen to promote ISI marked and HP certified products, Village Doctor Engagement where the team connected with local doctors and requested them to spread awareness among people on health hazards of using traditional cooking fuels along with installing safety charts in the clinics.
The campaign will visit 500 small towns and villages across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka and will reach out to more than five million households this year. Over the last three years of the SSA, the activity has reached out to almost 1,200 villages and engaged with over 8.5 million people with their safety messages.
