The discomfort of summers is not just limited to humans; the harsh sun can affect your pets alike. Heat stroke is common during the hot season, however, when ignored it might turn fatal for your beloved animals. In this regard, Hyderabad Paws and Dr Lakshmi organised the programme ‘Create Awareness on Tick Fever’ at Animal clinic care in Banjara Hills.

“Tick fever is most prevalent in dogs and it is affects the overall health of your pet. When a dog is bitten by an infected tick, saliva full of the rickketsia is released into it, which then gets into the blood circulation and infects the dog. The infected blood system causes bleeding disorders and clotting problems. As a result, dogs can die because of internal bleeding,” said Dr Lakshmi on the risk factors of the disease.

“The parasite predominantly affects large breed dogs like Labradors, Great Dane and Saint Bernard most mastiff family. It is important to kill not only the infected tick, but also the eggs and nymphs” she adds.
