We are not talking of football here. It is the Bengalis love for food and feasting we speak of. United Kitchens of India has devised this comprehensive festive menu – Borsho Boron that can be called the feast of the feasts, and launched it on the Bengali New Year day.

We are not talking of football here. It is the Bengalis love for food and feasting we speak of. United Kitchens of India has devised this comprehensive festive menu – Borsho Boron that can be called the feast of the feasts, and launched it on the Bengali New Year day.

The appetizers’ menu includes the Beguni (the quintessentially Bengali Brinjal fritter) followed by the sinfully fried and oily street food delights like Dimer Devil (This preparation of boiled egg covered with boiled potato mix, dipped in egg batter and covered with bread crumbs before deep frying is available at every corner in Kolkata),

Mutton kobiraji (also made by dipping the lamb in egg batter which is supposed to be the English influence), Bhetki fry and Murshidabadi Chicken (a specialty from a cuisine that is Bengali, yet a little deviated from the mainstream). Our advice is - do not gorge on the appetizer menu and our assumption is you will not heed to the advice.

Nevertheless, compromising on the extensive main course would be a sin too. There is the steamed jackfruit preparation Echoler Dalna, delicious Narkel diye cholar dal with its tiny coconut crumbs, Shukto, Murgir jhol that is so flavourful that you will not leave out even the chunks of potato,

Chingri malai curry that can be had with the Luchi and Siraji mangsho (delectable lamb cooked with onion, tomatoes and Indian spices) – try this with the Mishti Pulao or plain rice. You have almost reached the end of the meal. Now, top it up with a bit of Kancha Aamer Chaatni (fingerlickingly good it is) and finish it with the desserts from the ‘Dessert Land’ - Nolen Gur Rasgulla, Chaler Payesh and Sandesh.

Foremost, and definetely not the least – go with a huge appetite.
