In the memory of BR Ambedkar, Praja Natyamandali in association with Shanti Chakra International organised a cultural program titled ‘Sangam Sharanam Gacchami’ that depicted Ambedkar’s philosophy and his belief in Buddhism through theatre at Ravindra Bharati on the occasion of his 125 birth anniversary.

Directors of culture, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Mamidi Harikrishna and D Vijayabhaskar attended the event. The play started by showing how Ambedkar faced problems in his early life due to issues like untouchability. The drama clearly explains how people are forgetting Ambedkar’s principles and only recognize his role for drafting Indian Constitution and reservations for Dalits.

As is their style, Prajanatyamandali’s drama had a total of 14 songs that speak of Ambedkar’s life mission. 19 Artists participated in this drama and staged 70 minutes of continuous performance. The play, among other things, lingers upon the issue of how politicians are deceiving Dalit people at various stages of their basic rights and throws light upon the differences between Mahatma Gandhi and Ambedkar on the topic of reservations for Dalits before the 2 Round Table meeting, back in history.

D Vijayabhaskar shared, “Two state governments have jointly organised this program to show unity. Central and State governments have decided to celebrate Ambedkar 125 birth anniversary programs throughout the year. We are also planning to stage this outstanding 70-minute play in all districts of the state.”
