Eminent writer Sharada Ashoka Vardhan releases her book, ‘Naa Sirichukka Secunderabad’ at Tyagaraya Ganasabha at 6.30pm today

Sharada Ashoka Vardhan, a retired Joint Director of the Information and Public Relations Department has worked on deputation for All India Radio [AIR] for four years. She is a talented writer, lyricist, story writer, novelist and playwright on women issues.

She won the Telugu University award for her drama ‘Mabbutera’ in 1996 and emerged as the first woman to get this award. Among the hundreds of songs she had rendered, “Manasayera Madhava” became an all-time hit on All India Radio channels with the listeners at that time.

She was born in Secunderabad, and had written stories for magazines even as a child. In her 8th standard, she was felicitated by the then Public Works Department Minister Mehdi Nawaz Jung of Andhra Pradesh Cabinet for her work ‘Pisinari Bharta-Rogisti Bharya’, which in way was the inspiration for her to venture into more writing.

“Till now I have written 500 stories, 60 books (including 23 novels), 100 songs, and 9 dramas. I have also written some stories for Andhra Mahila paper, at the behest of Indian freedom fighter Durgabai Deshmukh,” she shares.

39 of Sarada’s stories have been telecast in Doordarshan as a daily serial. She also got the best writer award from DD for her stories.

She believes, “Telugu writers must do hard work to give their best to coming generations. They must show impact on the world literature and also keep in mind that they have to give equal importance to Telugu literature.”

Her upcoming book ‘Naa Sirichukka Secunderabad’ - where she writes about the history of the twin city and her memories of it will be released today at Tyagaraya Ganasabha, Chikkadpally at 6.30pm.

She says, “Today everybody knows about history of Hyderabad and until now no one has attempted to write a book on Secunderabad history. In this book, I tried to explain the great history of Secunderabad, and also recollect many beautiful moments from my memories with the city.”
