He is the wonder player in the corporate cricket league of the twin cities. Popularly hailed by teammates as ‘kingmaker’ for his match-winning prowess, Aslam Nahdi has been the fulcrum of Masqati Dairy Products Cricket Club (MDPCC), which has been the top-notch team having added almost every known corporate league championship in its kitty.
Nahdi has just created a record of sorts in the exclusive league. The athletically built 40+ is a first-change bowler but that has neither reduced his ability to run through the opposition batting order nor the hunger to bag more and more wickets. He has been consistent with the ball all the year, season after season.
For instance, his exploits this season are awesome. He has scalped 450 batsmen in just 130 matches spread over various corporate league championships. Apart from three hat-tricks, he has been man of the match on a whopping 31 occasions.
Besides being the best bowler of five championships, his fielding abilities have won him three ‘best catch’ awards in addition to being crowned with five ‘spirit of cricket’ awards.
The team has been riding the crest of glory, thanks to the inspirational performances of Nahdi and his mentor-like role. Nahdi says that he may have missed the first-class bus but he has no regrets, whatsoever.
‘As long as I am able to perform well and my team keeps winning important corporate tournaments, I feel delighted. That is what matters at the end of the day,’ he points out.
