Hyderabad: After the scorching heat touching 42 degrees Celsius in Hyderabad for the last three four days, denizens on Saturday were in for a pleasant weekend as several parts of the city witnessed rain and thunderstorm.

While it brought relief from the heat, the thunderstorm also led to power breakdown for over four hours in various areas like Kukatpally, Chaitanyapuri, Uppal and other areas in the city outskirts.

According to power officials, these areas have been without power for over four hours due to tripping of transformers and sub stations. Shyam Manohar of TS power utilities said the entire staff was on the job and restoration work was on.

The areas which were drenched in rains were Kukatapally, Balanagar, Paradise, Banjara Hills, Tarnaka and Uppal. The rains were accompanied with strong winds resulting in fall of temperature to 30 degree Celsius in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The rainfall of 4.4 mm has been measured by the Met department on Saturday.

Assistant meteorologist M Narsimha Rao said the rains occurred due to the formation of nimbus clouds. He said the nimbus clouds were likely to form in a gap of every few days and the city would receive more rains for a short period.

Thunderstorms activity and lightening could also be noticed during these rains, Narsimha Rao added.Met officials on Saturday forecasted rains in parts of the Nizamabad district. As per their predication, Velpur, Tadwal, Nirmal, Jakranpalle, Balkonda, Ranjal, Armur, Dhar Palle and Navipet villages would receive rains.

On Saturday, the highest maximum temperature recorded was 45 degree Celsius in Ramagundam. The temperature in Nalgonda and Hanmakonda were recorded 44 degree Celsius. Similarly, temperature in Adilabad, Badrachalam, Khammam and Nizamabad were recorded 42 degree Celsius. Whereas in Hyderabad and Mahbubnagar the temperature recorded was 42 degree Celsius.
