Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad and Bordeaux Metropole, France announced the partnership project in art, wherein artist Faiza Hasan from Hyderabad, will travel to Bordeaux, France, for an artist residency programme.

Faiza has done her Bachelors in Art from the Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU), Hyderabad and has been a curator for the Student Biennale at the Kochi Muziris Biennale, 2014.

“During the month-long residency, I will work with artist Jonathan Longuet at the L’agency creative workspace of Nadia Russel. Jonathan is an artist who works with various mediums including algae, which are the projects that evolved through time,” she said.

“I am the first artist to go on this important cultural exchange project. It will be a culmination of experience at a new space and I really cannot predict the outcome of my trip, which includes a visit to studios, museums and artists,” Fiaza added.

Coline Dehaye, International Cooperation Officer from Bordeaux Metropole said: “There are some common points between the city of Hyderabad and Bordeaux. We are here to understand the same and maybe this city would like something of our city.

Hyderabad is fast changing and it is in a position, where it can encompass new ideas for urban development. We can have cooperation in the field of waste management, land transportation, aeronautics, art and culture.

When the ‘tram project’ of Bordeaux was happening, about 1 per cent of the total budget was allocated to public art all across the tram routes. There is not of emphasis on the development and maintenance of public spaces in our country.

One looks forward to a win-win situation between Bordeaux and Hyderabad. This art residency programme is an assimilation of thoughts and artistic ideas for India and France.”
