Do you sit and work, but still have back pain? Wondering what’s the reason? Check out some startling facts... It’s always said that sit and work as it will relax your body but a recent study says otherwise. According to report it is said that he highest pressure on this joints fall while sitting for long hours.

Elaborating the same, Dr Manas Panigrahi, Senior Consultant Neuro Surgeon, KIMS said that, “The rate of loss of elasticity depends on lifestyle. The highest pressure on these two joints depends on the way we work. It is a misconception that if one stands and walk, the denervation is faster. Actually pressure is at it’s peak when one sits at a stretch for hours together.

Hence all people who sit for long time develop back pain.” The backbone is formed by 33 small bones called vertebrae. The bones are connected to each other by two joints namely Disc and Facet joints. The mobility of body depends on the condition of this two joints. As one grows old the joints loose elasticity and hence mobility. Finally reduction in mobility causes pain.

Taking this into consideration, many people have changed their offices to stand and work. Also if one sits for longer time than it is advised to have an ergonomic chair in office that will protect back. To create more awareness on the same, KIMS is organising a hands on workshop on Dynamic Stabilization in Spine Surgery by Dr Marcus Elf, a reputed Neuro Surgeon from Germany.

The workshop will be held on May 7 from 10 am to 4 pm. The main aim is to have 6-8 doctors interact with an international faculty in person and in the OT. As a part of knowledge sharing initiatives at KIMS, the institute of Neuro Sciences has started master class once in every three months and the first one is on spine.

Also there is a notion that if the spine degenerates then it’s becomes difficult to cure it but it must be highlighted that If at all one develops early degenerative changes in the joint, one can use interspinous device to augment weight transmission. Thereby delay degenerative changes.
