Taking the comedy scene to next echelon, the city-based stand-up comedy club ‘Hyderabadass Comedy’ will be conducting several shows, which will feature popular stand-up comics from across the nation.

Speaking about their collaboration with other comedy clubs and stand-up comics, Arun Govada, the founder of Hyderabadass Comedy club said, “We collaborated with a Bangalore-based comedy club and we have done couple of shows together. Stand-up comics from Hyderabad went and performed in Bangalore and comedians from there performed here.”

“We are planning to expand our collaborations in other cities and soon we will bring artistes from other cities to Hyderabad and vice versa. By the end of the year, we are planning to get foreign artistes to perform in the city. We have already spoken to a few artistes from Hong Kong, and we are in talks with other foreign comedy clubs too,” he adds.

‘Hyderabadass Comedy’ is organising a charity comedy show on May 13 taking forward Mother’s Day celebrations to another week. The group is presenting an all-women lineup for their showcase 'Holy Mother of Comedy' at Hyderabad Marriott.

The collections made from the show will be going to Spandana Society, a charitable organisation for children. "We thought what could be better than a mothers' show which brings a smile on people's faces and also helps children. We're very pleased with the kind of response we've got from the show so far and are hoping to do many more of such shows in the future," said Arun Govada.

And who better to represent the spirit of womanhood in comedy, than the headliner for the show Vasu Primalani. The Delhi-based stand-up comedy artist is the recipient of the Nari Shakti Award from the President in 2015, and she says that she is excited to be a part of such a show in Hyderabad.

"I love the city, though the heat wave has turned cars in Hyderabad into tandoors. But it always is good to do a show here, especially one for a noble cause," said the witty comic.

Also featuring on the show are other popular women comics Punya Arora from Bengaluru and Sonali Thakker from Mumbai. They both have been part of various shows across the country and believe that shows like these are great for the future of comedy and in some way end up contributing to the society.

Hosting the show is a Hyderabad-based comic Manjusha Banerjee who has been working in the local circuit for almost a year now and she is excited for the big day. "It is always exciting to perform with comics from other cities.

An all-woman lineup, funds that go to comedy and people having a laugh, I couldn't have asked for anything better," an excited Manjusha said.
