High spirits and religious fervour marked the annual Urs-E-Shareef at Karkhana Dargah, in Secunderabad. The Urs began on Saturday with a procession that started from Dargah Shareef and travelled via Karkhana, Mufort, Mastana hotel, Anthony Church and back to Dargah.

Rich musical tributes were paid to the souls of the departed saints with ghazals, qawalis and soulful songs of Sufiana Kalam. The Urs marked the 204th death anniversary of the saint, Hazrath Lala Shah Mehaboob.

The Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali paid rich tributes to the departed saints and offered flowers and sweets and sought blessings. Other important people from political and government agencies and a large number of people from all religions attended the gathering; prayed for the wellbeing of the mankind and for universal peace.

The entire area wore a festive look, with children playing games, enjoying joyrides and indulging in camel rides. Food was served to all devotees for two days from the organising committee, Jamiya Masjid Intezamia Committee.

Mohd Akhtar Ariff, president of the committee shared his thoughts on the occasion, “Some Sufi and other Muslims believe that dargahs are portals by which they can invoke the deceased saint's intercession and blessings. Others simply visit as a means of paying rich tributes to the departed saints and pray at the site for spiritual benefits.”

However, heavy winds and rain on Saturday night caused a minor disruption at open air exhibition and children play activities and the gathering was reduced.
