At one time toxins were only caused by free radicals.

Today chemicals, pesticides addictives, pollution, stress strains our body and our immune system is not able to naturally detoxify and therefore the perfect antidote to modern life is to detoxify via food. Small changes to cleanse and energise during summer:

Drink more water flavour it with fresh mint leaves and lemon it’s very refreshing in the summer.

Eat more fruit they have high amount of water natural sugar and minerals and vitamins With summer here and natures bountiful fruits like mango, watermelons, muskmelon and raw mangoes they cut down on heat and replenish salt sugar and minerals

Summer vegetables are cucumbers tomatoes the entire gourd family. Onions also play an important role in summer detoxification and keep sunstrokes away.

Snack on fruit chats with lemon and rock salt.

Reduce dairy as it increases mucus.

Reduce alcohol it is not suited for summer temperatures.

Replace tea coffee with green tea and herbal infusions. Cut down on sugar especially lemonades, aerated drinks, sherbets, squashes with sugar and peppermints.

Replace with lemon water with salt and cumin, coconut water. Buttermilk, jaljeera, kokum sherbet or raw mango drink like pannah sweetened with stevia a natural sweetner.

Add yoga, deep breathing and cardio exercise like walking and swimming.

Summer is the best time to replenish your vitamin D. Take in sunlight for 10 minutes and build it up daily.

Eat smaller meals as during summer we have smaller appetites.

Sample daily diet – Begin the day with fruits mangoes melons. If needed tea and poha with onions or upma with onion tomato or bread with tomatoes salt and little butter lemon water with rock salt in between.

Lunch - salad, vegetables with high water content, yoghurt and jowar or barley or wheat roti or rice cut down on other grains.

Mid- evening- Fruit smoothies or fruit chat.

Dinner – Salad, vegetable pulao, or salad sandwich or salad kichdi

Follow these simple guidelines and you will feel less tired and more energised.
