The main aim of education is not just to inculcate knowledge but to make the child physically, morally and emotional ready for the world.

Believing in the same principle, Sita Kiran, Principal and Regional Director, Dayanand Anglo Vedika (DAV) group of schools is practicing it from the past 40 years.

She believes that education is the most important thing in child’s growth, but she rues that most of the corporate educational institutions have made it commercial.

“Corporate schools make people like us look odd in the field of education as we still believe that teaching is to prepare the child to face the society and to lead a balanced life” she shares.

“Schools are responsible for the development of children, hence they should inculcate knowing the difference between what to do and what not to do, and teach them to explore and experience new things; a good teacher herself is a great motivation and strength to children,” she adds.

Sita Kiran, is recipient of 2008 National Teacher Award from Vice President Hamid Ansari, and has also been awarded CBSE Best Teacher Award in 2002.

Talking about her achievements, she says, “Awards will only remind you what more you have to do.” Sita Kiran, who has started her career in 1975 as a history teacher has completed her masters in history and MED.

She believes that a healthy competition among the students is necessary for their overall growth. “Teaching is a very responsible profession as we have the responsibility to build the nation.

A good teacher can change students’ life by motivating them in every possible way,”she adds. With dominance of AIEEE, IIT and NEET examinations in the country, Sita Kiran supports and prefers CBSE education to state board education.

“CBSE students surely have an advantage compared to the state board students as the AIEEE, IIT and NEET exam are based on CBSE syllabus,” she notes.

When asked what her message is for the young and upcoming teachers, she smiles, “Teaching is a very special profession and teachers should be committed and sincere and should always be open to learn new things.”
