Break is a verb, an irregular verb, its variants are broke and broken [break (present tense) – broke (past tense) – broken (past participle)], and breaks, breaking.

Break has multiple meanings: you may break down if you are uncontrollably sad i.e. when sad or overwhelmed by sorrow; countries can break down (get divided) into pieces if there is a civil war or political upheaval; if you drop your mobile phone it can break (stop working); people break the records (overcome the earlier records with their achievements); people who break the law (overstep) can get arrested.

Break means to stop from doing something, to destroy, to interrupt; to make something inoperable for one or the other reason (The car broke down.); ruin completely; become separated such as into tiny pieces, fragments, split up, come apart (the coffee cup fell from hand and broke into pieces).

Break forms several idioms, compound words and phrases: break a law (violate), break a leg (perform well), break a sweat (idiom: to put effort: some people achieve things without breaking a sweat), breakeven (noun: neither profit nor loss in a business), break apart (a whole divided into small units), break bread (dine in the company of others.

The monks in monasteries broke bread together), break dance (noun: a sole dance with acrobatic moves), break down (lose control of emotions, stop functioning, make or becoming ineffective, divide into small units for analysis such as a specimen, sentence, compound)…

Breaker is a quarry worker.

Breaker is wave of the waters of a sea or ocean breaking on the shore.

Breaker is a device: a circuit breaker (electricity).

Brake functions as a noun and verb.

As a noun, brake is the pedal or the point that can bring a vehicle to halt; a restraint that can slow or stop a car or lorry or bike; a device that can hinder or slow the process.

Brake is an area overgrown with one kind of plant: Pteris tremula is an Australian brake (brake fern) and cliff brakes (genus Pellaea, family Pteridaceae) are grown on rocky areas and cliffs.

There are many celebrities who are broke (bankrupt, no money) and celebrities who broke down in public (cried, out of joy or distress).

Make sure you will not go broke; and breaking down (crying) is only releasing the emotional build-up in the body.
