After completing Class XII or Intermediate majority of students dream to get into a reputed college not just to secure their future but also to fulfill expectations, but the sad part here is that a large number of the students are preferring colleges over courses which they will regret later in their life.

“Almost all the best colleges in the city conduct an entrance examination which is followed by the counseling or interview, if the student does not secure good marks in the entrance test then he will be forced to take admission into a different course than the one he applied for,” says Narayni Gupta, an admissions officer.

The coming of June marks the spark that lights the fiery fire of college admissions; a flurry of activity and a growing sense of anticipation grips the minds of students. The filling out of applications, sitting through entrance examinations and worst of all waiting for the results adds to growing tension

“During counseling students are told to opt for a course that has more seats in comparison to the one that interests the student, saying they may be able to slide later. But then again there is no guarantee of the same,” She said.

“ I applied for B Com (Honours) in one of the reputed colleges in the city, but at the time of counseling I was forced to take Mass Communication as the seats were over in the Honours course”, Says Heena. “Out of every five students, four are forced to join in different courses than they opted for,” says Narayani.

The other issue faced by the students is after applying for multiple colleges, they may not be able to get admission in to any.
“I have applied multiple colleges in city, despite of my merit I was unable to get admission in merit quota, worried that I might lose the year, I took admission via payment seat”, said Kiranmaye who is doing B Sc first year in Hyderabad.
