With a handful of days left for Ramadan to begin, shopkeepers at Laad Bazaar in Old City are gearing up for the month-long celebrations with pomp and gaiety. For this festive season, it will be raining offers on clothes, accessories and artificial jewellery at the iconic shopping domain near Charminar.

The shopkeepers have decided to give a flat 30 to 50 per cent off on clothes and dress material for women and children during the season.“We have already placed an order for the clothes. Still there is a time for the festival, by then the stock will be ready. This time clothes will be much cheaper in comparison with last festival,” says Aziz, one of the shopkeepers at Lad Bazaar.

Women’s love for bangles is legendary; and shops have come up with a variety of new designer wear hand-made bangles. Most of the shops have ordered for making Lac bangles as well.“These are colourful bangles, which can be worn with any outfit and these bangles are purchased more in during Ramadan.

Besides thread bangles are also popular during the festive season,” says Mohammed Azhar of A1 bangles store at Laad Bazaar and adds that these bangles look trendy and comes for Rs 100 per two. Azhar further says that ear cuffs have become latest fashion for Ramadan. Talking about the business, “We intend to make around Rs 10,000 in a day,” says Azhar.

Nizami jewellery, which gives a royal look, has become a latest trend and adding to that jhumkas with pearls has taken the interest of women. And most shopkeepers have made stock of such designs. “Nizami jewellery price range starts from Rs 450. It gives a royal look to women,” says Mohammed Adil, a store owner at Laad Bazaar.

“We usually sell wedding collection so most of our customers visit us during wedding season, but at the same time we have designer blouses, borders and outfits for Ramadan season. Designer blouses starts from Rs 200 and borders pricing is from 50,” he adds.

And of course, Ramadan shopping is incomplete without mehendi (henna), which women apply for Eid. “During last 10 days women apply mehndi and hence it will be sold more during end of Ramadan,” says Vishnu of Ratan Cosmetics shop in the area.
