Secunderabad Cantonment Board Employees Union members (SCBEU),submitted a memorandum to Malkajgiri MP, Ch Malla Reddy and defence minister Manohar Parikar to remove five per cent ceiling on compassionate appointments in group D category employees such as sweepers,
toilet cleaners, garbage lifting and cleaning, drainage lines cleaning, gardeners (malis), plumbers, welders and other low class employees as their job lies in unhygienic environment, are hazardous in nature and risky where the employees are prone to death while in service.
President and general secretary of the SCBEU, A Mahender and A Parashuram in a joint statement on said, “The total number employees of the SCB is 550 as against the sanctioned strength of 850, the remaining 300 vacancies are unfilled for a long time, except 26 persons appointed in 2014.
There are 350 employees under group D category of which for the past 5 years around 70 employees died and their dependents are looking forward for compassionate appointments but the rule of 5 per cent ceiling has become a big hurdle.”
