City-based, award winning fashion designer Santhosh Kumar’s collection for Ramadan is a graceful and elegant take with shervanis of zardosi and hand embroidery, giving the pieces that touch of festivity.

Hailing from Medak district, Santhosh is a product of the young creative brigade whose collections spell imagination; his collections touch the heart of fashion lovers.

Speaking to The Hans India, Santhosh recollects his journey. “My parents weren’t supportive of my career choice until I won a fashion show during my second year of college,” he shares.

“Later, I won the ‘Best Designer’ award at a fashion show in 2011 along with ‘Best Designing and Styling’ titles. I also participated at the ‘Chennai Fashion Week 2015’, ‘Chennai Bridal Fashion Week 2015’ and ‘International Glamour Fashion Week 2016 in Hyderabad’,” he informs of his journey.

So, what’s his genre of designing?

“Most of my collections are for men; upto 80 per cent I say. I work on themes that are environment and human based. Although, my collections are mostly traditional and wedding wear, I keep shifting to new pieces based on the occasion and season, especially for selecting fabrics and colours.

Most of the material used is natural fabric like cotton, silk and wool depending on the requirement,” says Santhosh. “We have modish and classy collections. My favourite colours are black and white. All my pieces will have those shades,” he adds.

Santhosh doesn’t just work on traditional wear. He has a mix of western pieces as well, which when teamed with indigenous clothing work wonders as fusion fashion.

“We have a lot of western collection too which could be mix matched with palazzo, drapes. We design clothes depending on the body texture, which would look trendy and fashionable on any body type,” he informs about the same.

The dreams of young emerging designers are many and the one of Bollywood is common to most. Santhosh too harbours the same. “I plan to work for movies of course. My current focus is on creating a line for women wear, though,” he concludes.
