Nearly one lakh participated in the International Yoga Day celebrations across the State and city organised by Art of Living (AoL) foundation. The sessions were held simultenously at different venues. including in Yousufguda, Nallagandla Lake, Gitanjali High School and RRC Indoor Stadium .

The hour-long sessions began with a prayer and light stretches followed by various ‘asanas’ that wre overseen by trained teachers and volunteers. ‘We should practice yoga every day to keep our mind calm, and work efficiently,” said Bhaskar Volam, an apex member of the AoL at an event at KVBR Stadium in Yousufguda.

Around 300 people participated in the celebrations on the Nallagandla Lake Bund. The event was graced by Serlingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi. Other guests of honour included corporators Komirisetty Saibaba and Jagadeeshwar Goud, and several key officials from the GHMC and the State Irrigation Department. At the event the dignitaries pledged to accelerate the rejuvenation of lake.

Minister for textiles, Raghuram superintended the celebrations at Gitanjali High School in Begumpet. Addressing the troop of over 700 students, he spoke vividly about yoga and how it is something India has given to the world. He also spoke about the Indian traditions and different benefits of yoga. While, around 700 railway employees participated in the celebrations at RRC Indoor Stadium, Secunderabad.

Apart from these, yoga sessions also took place at NMDC, Habsiguda, Salarjung Museum, Sri Sri Academy, Chirec International School, Gitanjali School, ISRO, EFL University, IRISET, DRDO, Rail Nilayam, R.R.C. Grounds, BHEL Stadium, A. S. Rao Nagar. These were conducted with the support of the Ayush Ministry and Telangana Government.

Sessions were also held at Cherlapally and Chanchalguda jails, as well as other districts of Telangana including Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam, Nalgonda, Adilabad and Nizamabad. “The purpose of yoga is to put a smile on you in spite of all the stress, tensions, and situations we face in our day-to- day life,” Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder, Art of Living said.
