Tamil Nadu’s Akash P Iyer emerged winner in the Kasinadhuni Rajyalakshmi memorial international FIDE rating chess tournament at Yoga Hall in Lal Bahadur Stadium on Thursday.

In the last round, Akash(8) defeated his state-mate and International Master R Balasubrahmanyam (6.5) to clinch the title with clear half-point margin. V Varun of Hyderabad tied for second place with AL Muthaiah, S Prasanna (both from Tamil Nadu) and J Ramakrihna of Andhra Bank.

These four players scored 7.5 each, but due to higher tie break score Varun declared runner-up. A Dinakar Babu, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Sport Authority of Telangana State (SATS) gave away the prizes.

Major K A Shiva Prasad, Vice-President, TS Chess Association, KS Prasad, Advisor, TSCA and Ganta Arvind Kumar, tournament organiser were also present on the occasion.

Final standings: 1. Akash P Iyer (TN), 2. V Varun(TS), 3.Muthaiah Al (TN), 4. S Prasanna(TN), 5. J Rama Krishna (AB), 6. Ajay Kumar Rai (Del), 7. IM Chakravarthy Reddy M (TS), 8. Avi Jaiswal (Kar), 9. Soni Krishan (Har), 10 R Balasubrahmanyam (TN).
