Rana Ayyub is an Indian journalist, who had previously worked for Tehelka, and is now an independent columnist with NDTV and Outlook. She wrote a book ‘Gujarat Files: Anatomy of a Cover Up,’ on 2002 Gujarat encounters, which was released at Lamakaan, Hyderabad on Saturday. Earlier, the book was officially released in Delhi, a month ago.

The book is a riveting narrative of Rana’s risky eight-month long undercover investigation and transcripts of the sting operations with Gujarat top cops. According to the author, ‘Gujarat Files’ gives details of 2002 Gujarat riots, fake encounters and the murder of state Home Minister Haren Pandya.

The book, which suffered severe censorship by corporate media since 2010, brings to the fore startling revelations and sets a new benchmark for investigative journalism. “I went as ‘Maithili Tyagi’; a filmmaker from the American Film Institute Conservatory and had met bureaucrats and top cops in Gujarat, who held pivotal positions in the state between 2001 and 2010.

The transcripts of my sting operation reveal the complicity of the State and its officials in crimes against humanity,” explained Rana Ayyub. “Gujarat Files is the result of eight months of undercover operation. I sent a BJP top leader behind the bars. He was responsible for the murder of innocent people.

India is a justice loving country and I believe that most of us believe justice happens in India. This book was released in Delhi about one month ago but no single channel had talked about it, instead they covered Malya kind of issues,” she adds.

“One of the biggest publications of the country disapproved to publish my book when Narendra Modi came to power in 2014. Then, I decided to self-publish it. Now I am looking forward to translate the book into all the Indian languages. For now, I will introduce it in metro cities. My next book is on the black money trade and I will begin it soon,” she concludes.
