Ravindra Gupta, General Manger, South Central Railway reviewed the position today with Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division and Chief Medical Director, SCR and expressed his concern on the matter, instructing that all action be taken to mitigate the problems faced by the residents of Railway Colony, Chilkalguda.

The General Manager instructed AK Gupta, Additional General Manager and SN Singh , Principal Chief Engineer, SCR to personally inspect the Railway Colonies. Acting on the instruction of General Manager, the Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division made a door-to-door visit of the Railway Quarters, Chilkalguda today and interacted with the residents, educating them on the need to boil the drinking water before consumption and also maintain hygiene in the surroundings.

Chlorine tablets were also distributed and pamphlets carrying precautions and measures needed for sanitation and hygiene, circulated during the visit. ORS sachets have also been distributed to the residents. At the Railway Hospital, Lallaguda, Doctors have been deployed round the clock to extend required medical aid to the patients and also handle new cases reported, if any.

On the other hand, several measures have been undertaken as directed by the General Manager to ensure quality of the water being supplied to the Railway Quarters , Chilkalguda. The GLR (Ground Level Reservoir) from which water is being supplied to the colony was totally emptied and cleaned. The Hyderabad Metro Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has been requested for undertaking joint testing of the water quality being received from HMSWWB.

Cleaning of overhead water tanks is also undertaken. Sewerage drains in the colony area are also being cleaned to ensure hygienic surroundings. The Inquiry Committee consisting of Chief Health Director & Chief Engineer (Works), SCR set up by the General Manager to investigate into the cause of water contamination will be submitting its conclusion.

Ravindra Gupta sought a status report on the health condition of the patients who fell sick and action taken report on measures initiated on a day to day basis. The General Manager reiterated that the commitment to ensure supply of clean and potable water to the residential and station areas all over the Zone shall be adhered to, at all costs.
