The 15 Books Campaign, of Pearson, was inaugurated in Hyderabad across the Pearson managed schools. Shalini Srinivasan, a renowned author of the comic series, Amar Chitra Katha, inaugurated the campaign and unveiled 15 books in the library.

She conducted a gripping story-telling session which had the students listening to her in rapt attention. She also read paragraphs from her book, ‘Gangamaa’s Ghariyal,’ which was thoroughly enjoyed by students and teachers alike.

Speaking on the occasion, Shalini said: “Making reading a regular practice can help students to de-stress and eliminates negative thoughts. It can bring in a lot of positivity and develop logical thinking which in future may help them in cracking several competitive exams, which involves reasoning and critical thinking.”

For this edition of the campaign, Pearson partnered with Hippocampus Reading Foundation, a well-known organisation, which aims at encouraging reading among children, at all levels. They also partnered with the organisation, to train the librarians to make the library sessions interactive and appealing to the students.

Besides, Hippo Campus will also orient the librarians and teachers to use the GROW programme, which assesses the reading levels of children, encourages them to read books at their skill levels and helps them to improve their reading comprehension skills.

This annual campaign is conducted across all Pearson schools where every student from Class I-VIII will read 15 books through the year from the chosen genre. These books are made available to them in the school library.

On completing reading the books, students will be awarded a completion certificate at the end of the academic year. This programme aims to instil a spirit of reading in students by exposing them various literary pieces, across genre and thus making learning a rewarding experience for them.

“I always look forward to the 15 Book Campaign as I get lost in the interesting world of books, reading is my favorite pastime and I never let go off an opportunity to try different genres of books, be it fiction, mystery, science or literature,” said Harsh, a student of Hillside School.
