Aeon and eon are used interchangeably but preferences exist in their usage and context which means long time ago, a time when one human being was around, a large block or stretch of time; the longest division of a geological time; a time span that is almost immeasurable.

Eon (noun) means an indefinite time (she lived here eons ago meaning long time ago that almost no one remembers), very long period of time; an age; the longest division of geological time which contains two or more eras.

He travelled there eons ago! Here eons refer to the person reaching the destination long time ago, ahead of others, before anyone would have had expected.

Russia (former USSR) was able to place satellites into the orbits eons ago (before many other countries did that).
