The University of Hyderabad (UoH) in association with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI), undertook a massive tree plantation under the flagship programme of the Chief Minister of Telangana ‘Telangana Ku Haritha Haram’ July 11 in about 250 acres and more than one lakh saplings were planted in half-a-day.

Baba Fasiuddin, Deputy Mayor, GHMC and Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor, UoH, inaugurated the plantation programme. The office bearers of CREDAI, Ram Reddy, President of Telangana State Chapter, Rama Krishna Rao, General Secretary, Murali Krishna Reddy, Vice-President, Anand Reddy, Vice-President, Rajeswar, Treasurer and MV Rajeswara Rao, Chief Executive Officer welcomed the dignitaries.

Baba Fasiuddin informed that there had been a tremendous response from the people of Telangana to the call given by the Chief Minister for massive tree plantation. “Once upon a time there used to be several gardens in the twin cities and the localities in and around such gardens were named as Seetaram Bagh, Kanchan Bagh, Baghlingampally, etc and because of the existence of such gardens, pleasant climatic conditions were prevailing at that time. But now such cooling weather condition do not exist in the city, and in an effort to bring back such climatic conditions the Telangana Government has decided to undertake massive tree plantation programme,” he said.

Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor while speaking on the occasion said that University would experience the benefits of the plantation of one lakh within one-two years. Further, it was also informed that these plants would be protected and maintained by the CREDAI over the next three years.

In this programme about 1,300 NSS Volunteers from 20 Engineering Colleges affiliated to JNTU-H, about 1,000 members of University fraternity and about 1,500 workers participated and more than one lakh saplings were planted in half-a-day.
