A moving portrayal of an Indian family

Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation in association with Telangana Tourism presented Girish Karnad’s play ‘Wedding Album’, directed by Lillette Dubey that saw a full-house turnout at Taramati Baradari, despite heavy drizzle. The play had about 400 shows worldwide.

The play chronicles events leading up to the wedding of the youngest daughter of the Nadkarni family living in interior Karnataka, and its moving and hilarious conflicts and clashes. It very well was a depiction of our traditions in the context of today’s globalised, technologically-savvy world.

The convincing family setup preparing for the wedding had the bride-to-be, her parents, two siblings and a couple from neighboring state with a marriage proposal. Breathtaking sets, powerful performances and taut script made it a splendid evening of theatre. Ira Dubey as the protagonist and Utkarsh Mazumdar as the ageing father stood out with brilliant portrayal while Deepika Amin as the mother and Suchitra Pillai as the sister were at ease.

Ashwini Kumar Mushran was dashing as the NRI groom prospect. Lillette Dubey had a word of praise for Mohammad Ali Baig and the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation for bringing world class theatre to the city while complementing Chairperson Begum Razia Baig for wonderful hospitality.

Baig in turn hailed Lillette Dubey on stage and her Primetime Theatre Co. for completing 25 years saying, “It’s not easy for any actress and woman-director of serious theatre in our country to carry on her work consistently for such a long time with such dedication”.
