University College for Women (UCW), Koti, Hyderabad organised an open house for high school students with the support of college faculty, students and NSS Volunteers. PG and UG students from various branches of science participated actively by setting up stalls representing their respective departments.

Around 700 students from eleven government and private schools visited the open house. Some of the major attractions of the program were live dissection of frogs, snakes and other reptiles, fossils of dinosaur, tri-coloured immiscible liquid experiment.
Students were intrigued by the theme 'chemistry in everyday life' where students from department of chemistry demonstrated different chemicals used in everyday life. They also gave tips for cleaning and washing using simple chemicals. Enthusiastic students tried their hand at various equipments on display, jotted down notes and got their umpteen doubts cleared in lenghty interaction with the participants and volunteers.
Students enjoyed educational games that were set up. In one such game participants were asked to pick up an alphabet from a box and try giving at least five names of vegetables, fruits, pulses and cereals along with their nutritional values.
Another game snack and ladder, where participants had to reach out to different levels in order to win a food item placed there proved quite popular with the young crowd. In blind fold game participants were blind folded and were presented with an array of flours. They were asked to identify five to six flours. Winners of all the games were given goodies much to their delight.
Students made the most of the open house by surveying the entire campus. They were in awe of the architecture of the famous 'Darbar Hall.' Some of the school girls were seen admiring casually dressed college girls and expressed their desire to join the college for higher studies.
At the end of the day open house proved to be a great learning experience for all the little visitors who went home with lot of information in their kitty.
