Safari Park closed at zoo

With rains lashing the city in the last few days, heavy inflows from the adjoining Mir Alam Tank that abuts the Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) is inundating the zoo especially on the Safari Park side. In addition, polluted water is also entering the moats of animal enclosures.

The zoo authorities have been draining out water from Singoji Pond. The water is contaminated and hazardous to animals.

“Vehicles get stuck in the slush and it was becoming difficult as visitors panicked,” said a zoo official on the decision to close the Safari Park.

The zoo management said that the Safari is closed temporarily and once the water recedes, the service would resume.
