Every alternate Saturday, upto 52 students of Glendale Academy visit government schools to share their knowledge and spend time with children there.

The aim is to sensitise the underprivileged on issues ranging from personal hygiene, life skills, spoken English, environment, Math, Quiz, storytelling and personality development.

The endeavour is part of the year-long programme conceived by Glendale Academy along with Teach for India, a non-profit organisation. It includes trips to different government schools by students who impart skills.

The school started the ‘Community Outreach Programme’ with an intention to make students from the school realise the importance of empathy and also know how students in government schools study with bare minimum facilities.

Speaking about the initiative, Minu Khan, Assistant Director, Glendale Academy said, “There is a marked difference in the students. In the recent trip to Government School in Kulsumpura, the students first cleaned the whole school. Teaching leadership is our goal and we are very happy with the response.”

Students of grades IX-XII are part of the programme. In the coming months, different groups will visit schools and some will repeatedly visit the same institution to see the improvement.

Fayaz Ather, a student who is part of the programme said that it was gratifying to see children in government schools learn new things.”

Isham Kapoor, Antara Balal and Abhijeet Sreepada along with Fayaz are taking a lead role in the Community Outreach Programme.
