Monsoon chaos…!

Lingering through lengthy traffic congestion of the capital city and not knowing when vehicles could move was striking on Wednesday morning.

While several low-lying areas got submerged in the rains that lashed the twin cities in the early hours, the movement of vehicular traffic was also badly affected resulting in tough times for commuters.

TSRTC bus services were tardy and tariffs for application-based cab services were sky-rocketing with surge pricing reaching upto four times the amount.

Students and employees failed to reach their destination and suffered the chaos of monsoon. Streets turned into pools thank to futile drainage system. Puddles of rainwater and sewage made Punjagutta complicated for people to visit their headquarters. A similar situation was seen in Ameerpet and SR Nagar.

The metro city turned to a rural landing with wretched murky roads even in main parts of the New City.

Applause for devotees’ courage

Traffic jams, which are an expected site at Balkampet, heightened due to the rains. However, the downpour did not dampen the spirit of the pilgrims and an extended queue was seen waiting for hours outside the temple for the deity’s darshan.

The downpour brought back memories of August 2000 when 24 cm rainfall on the intervening night of August 23-24 had killed 26 people and damaged hundreds of houses. For several people the rainfall was a first-of-its-kind where they witnessed a flood-like situation.

City authorities are acclaimed for the efforts to ease traffic congestion and facilitating a comfortable commute for pedestrians, but yesterday’s rain proved the diminutive intensity of exertion and dedication forced by authorities to overcome civic issues in some grand areas of Hyderabad.
