Nearly 650 students and over 350 teachers took part in the ‘Dr VRK Free Medical Camp’ organised by the Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) in the premises of the Academy in Maheshwaram Mandal.

In a pioneering effort, senior doctors including renowned surgeons, paediatricians, dentists, physicians and dieticians took their medical equipment including X-Ray machines and laboratory apparatuses to set up a ‘mini-hospital’ at the academy.

From a pathology lab to a dentistry setup, to biochemistry, ultrasound to ENT and investigation departments, scores of students were channelled through each department for dermatologic, ophthalmologic, respiratory, orthopaedic and even surgical examinations to generate their individual health records.

Overwhelmed by the operational setup of the health camp, Aaron Jacob Dean of Students, Aga Khan Academy expressed interest in making this camp a regular annual arrangement with SIMS. He said, “Students from foreign countries who are studying at our institution are also benefitting from this medical camp.”

Managing Director – SIMS and Dr VRK Women’s Medical College Dr Sarib Rasool Khan said, “The camp is a part of Shadan group’s efforts in making a healthier society.”

Besides diagnosis and treatment, students were also educated of ways to provide artificial respiration and immediate medical help in the event of an emergency under the presence of Associate Professor Dr Mohammed Asif Siddique, Dr Naveed Altaf, Dr Sukanya, Dr Nasihuddin, Dr Ibrahim Azam were also present. Dr Geoffery Fischer, Head of the academy, educationist Dr Fareeda Lakhani, Dr Kamal Hasan and Dr Yousuf Ali were among others present on this occasion.

The four-day camp concludes on Saturday.
