Prof S Ramachandram, who recently took over as new Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University, plans to revive the education and moral culture of the university.
Talking to Young Hans, Prof S Ramachandram pointed out the need of inculcating the moral values from the grass-root levels in the students to avoid breakdown in the future.
“Every student is intelligent and good but the problem is that they have not been taught moral values since their childhood and this is leading them to commit mistakes in their important years,” shares S Ramachandram.
“It is the responsibility of the parents and teachers to teach morals in the tender age; so that children develop into responsible adults in the society,” he adds.
Prof S Ramachandram, who started his career as a lecturer in computer sciences, has rose to the level of professor with his sheer knowledge in subject and was involved in major automation initiatives of the Telangana Government.
Sharing his plans for restoring the brand name of university, he said, “The main focus will be on empowering the students with communication and interpersonal skills, which will help them in acquiring jobs in the market”.
“Teachers will be trained first so that they can train students in a better way,” he adds Talking about the importance and need of entrepreneurs in the country, Prof S Ramacharam notes, “There are a lot of jobs in the market,
but with the increasing number of eligible graduates the number of job givers should also be increased and this can only happen when entrepreneurial temper in students is developed. By developing university’s own incubation centre; many students who have great ideas but lack technical and financial support will be benefited.”
Sharing about the University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) status, which was awarded to the Osmania University recently by the University Grants Commission (UGC), he said, “The UPE status presented by the UGC is an encouragement to most of the research scholars and faculty to continue their research.
We will closely look into the research projects under the UPE, and make sure that the expected outcomes are met.”
Strengthening the teaching and learning process, improving the infrastructure of the university, digitising and modernising the university, restoring academic discipline and establishing state-of-the-art research facilities with transparent and good governance, are among the major changes the new VC plans to implement.
