Dr Bharat V Purohit, Consultant Cardiologist & Chief of Cath Lab, Continental Hospitals, said,” Heart disease is one of the world's leading causes of death, claiming 17.3 million lives each year. Most of the young professionals today have odd working shifts and depend on fast food that is easily available.
On top of it, indulging in smoking and drinking to "reduce the stress" worsens the situation. There must be a complete overhaul of such a lifestyle in order to protect one’s heart.”
Dr Avinash Dal, Chief of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, Continental Hospitals, suggested small changes one can make in daily life to protect the heart. “Start with small adjustments like opting for healthier oils, ensuring seven hours of sleep and consciously staying calm in stressful situations,” he said.
Harish Manian, COO, Continental Hospitals, urged everyone to get periodic heart health checks. “This year’s theme is ‘Power Your Life’, and we want everyone to understand what they can do to fuel their hearts and power their lives. Getting frequent cardiac checks done is another way through which you can track your progress and stay motivated to live a healthy life,” he said.
Satyanarayana said, “We need a comprehensive approach to combat heart disease, with a focus on education and access to proper health facilities. For this, both the public and the private sectors have to work together.”
The event concluded with the guests, doctors and management of Continental Hospitals releasing 500 heart shaped balloons into the sky as a symbolic gesture of their commitment for the cause.
