Speaking on the occasion, senior Psychiatrist Dr I Rama Subba Reddy has said that the World Health Organisation has addressed a right theme of the year which is apt for the present day scenario.

He said ‘Dignity in Mental Health-Psychological Health First Aid to all’ is the theme of the year, where the people surrounding the patients with psychological disorders need to get trained to indentify the mental illness at early stages.

He further added that due to the work stress and personal conditions many people were being treated with counseling sessions in the city. All the 25 psychiatrists in the city are busy with treating over 100 patients in a day, he stated.

Psychiatrist Dr RK Ayodhya said that the many people still lack of awareness in getting a proper treatment. The health workers and social workers were also need to get trained in this mental health first aid programme.

He added that the government should also focus on de-addiction centers and suicide prevention programmes.

Dr Lakshi Prasad, Dr V Sadanandham, Dr V Radhika Reddy and other members of psychiatric society took part in the event.
